What Does Settling Look Like
written by Christy Wimber Aug 25, 2008
What does settling look like? What does it look like to live a life wishing for more but never having the faith to walk it out? Wishing you had more relationships; wishing you had more money; wishing you had more time; wishing you had more of God’s presence in and around your life.
No one gets to the end of their life, wishing they held back. Wishing they didn’t risk so much; wishing they just would have settled instead of living a life of risk. If anything many go to their death wishing they had done more to go after the dreams that were deep inside of them. Wishing they had told someone they loved them. Wishing they would have just taken that trip they always wanted too. Wishing they went back to school to do their dream job. Wishing they had told that someone they loved them. Wishing they skydived, or did something out of their normal comfort zone.
Just wishing they would have done more with what they were given.
I’m convinced that many people live their lives never really tapping into their deepest dreams. The Bible tells us that “Dreams un-desired is what makes the heart sick” [Proverbs 13:12]
I think a great question to ask ourselves is, “If money, time, energy wasn’t an issue—what would I be doing?”
What would you be giving your life too? If you had one last shot to go after your dream, would you take the time to wish it.. Or actually do it?
God is the one that places deep dreams inside each of us. I think what makes people so sad, so sick in their bodies and in their minds is that somewhere, at sometime in their life—they were discouraged that their dream could only be that--- just a dream.
One of my greatest joys as a parent is watching each of my children do exactly what God made them to do. Here I got to play a role in them becoming these gifts to not only Sean and I but also to the world. One of my greatest pleasures is watching them thrive in the very things they’re amazing at. Whether it be John building things, planning things, his ability to communicate or gather a crowd. Or Camie Rose, playing the guitar, doing worship, writing, serving the children, or getting ideas I wish I did when I was her age.
These things are so amazing for me to watch.. And why? Because they are doing things not only they love, but that they’re created too do. So how much more would our heavenly Father get joy out of watching his kids, those he created, use the gifts he gave to them? And not only use those gifts, but dream about doing them; love doing them. What joy that gives our Father!
In Ecclesiastes it tells us that life is so short. We get this one chance to live a life with out settling. To live a life with no regrets. When your Father in heaven looks down and sees you, what in your life are you doing that you know He created you for? Are you dreaming about it, or are you actually doing those things?
Don’t let the world tell you what you’re life should look like; ask the one who created you. Don’t waste time settling---live life full of zeal doing the very things God Himself gets pleasure out of watching you do.
Be one who at the end of your life here this side of heaven can give a sigh of relief that you were one that lived your life with nothing left on your ‘wish list.’
