Another Risk of Outreach

Stories from April 14th 2011

When our Treasure Hunt Team arrived at Walmart we headed for one of the locations on our list: Dog Food Aisle. When we got there a man was loading four bags of dog food into his shopping cart. As he strolled away we noticed he had a limp. We approached the man and realized that he was also wearing a blue stripy shirt, which was also on our list. We told him what it was we were up to and asked him if he had anything else on our list that was relevant to him. He replied that he also had tendonitis, arthritis ( which was on the list as well) and that he had cadaver bones in his lead due to a previous car accident. We offered to pray for him and while he was a bit nervous he agreed. We prayed for him and asked God to heal his leg as well as bless him and his family. Before we walked away he thanked us for making his night and that he was glad that there were still nice people that took the time to care for others.

We had gotten a word earlier that there was a young man with long hair who was suffering from depression in the Electronic Section. We headed to Electronics and sure enough there was a younger man dressed inblack with a long ponytail looking at dvds. We introduced ourselves and he started chatting to us right away. He shared with us about his faith as a mormon and how he served as a missionary for two years. He also revealed that though he followed the mormon faith he wasn't quite convinced that it was the whole truth he was seeking. He mentioned that if some other faith were to come along that encompassed all that he was looking for that he was sure he would explore it. We offered to pray for him, but he was not very comfortable with us praying fo rhim in public. He did, however say that he was looking for a new job as a sercurity guard and we assured him that we would pray for him after we walked away. He was thankful and went back to rumaging through the dvds...a seed was definently planted.

Upon leaving the young man with long hair we headed over to the gardening area. There was one woman there but she didnt seem, to fit any of our words and one of our team members suggested that she may be one of the names we had gotten earlier in prayer. We went up to this woman and explained to her that we were on a Treasure Hunt and asked her what her name was. She told us and sure enough it was a name that was on our list. She let us know that she went to a local church and was so excited that a group of young adults would take the time to encourage random strangers in Walmart. We could tell that she was the type of woman who served others in everything she did but that she never asked for anything in return. She had such a humble heart and we were encouraged just to meet her. We asked to pray for her and she said yes! We stood there in Walmart, in the gardening section, holding hands and praying to our most amazing God. We prayed a blessing over her and in return she blessed us. It was a great way to end our night.
