Bag of Hope
May 26, 2008
Its so amazing to see how God gives vision to people for things, when we wait for him to be the one to innitiate things. For a while now, we have been praying for benevolence and outreach with the poor, and we are starting to see these things play out in our church.
One example of what we're seeing is a thing called Bag of Hope. A woman in our church felt like she was supposed to make bag lunches with a special note on the napkin, for the homeless in L.A. Her and her sister made the lunches, and went to a park that they found in L.A. and began talking and spending time with the homeless, and people they came across who were not homeless, and giving them the lunch bags. She told us that while the lunches were important, that the main thing that they wanted to do was just love on the people that God put in their path. She wanted to spend time and talk and meet people to show Gods love without anything preaching, just loving.
She has been going once a month now, and each week she has more people asking to go with her, and taking more lunch bags down. It went from 25 lunches to 200 in 5 weeks! Each week, they knew that they would not have enough for the obvious need, however, each time they have gone...they have watched the food multiply! Even so, that when they did not have enough for everyone, they ended up having leftovers and got to bless another church in the area, who had only just been praying for food to give away in their ministry!
This is SO exciting for us as a church. If you are interested in being involved, whether it be making lunches, or other things, we will post some information on the Outreach page of the website!
